World bank expert and Ex-Nigerian finance minister Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has just reacted to rejection of her appointment by the U.S as DG of WTO.
Recently, we reported that the Office of the U.S representative at the WTO stated that Mrs. Yoo Myung-Hee remains a contender and the U.S would not recognise Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as DG of WTO.
This is going against the consensus reached by other members of the WTO
Due to the statement of the U.S representative, the General counsel of WTO has decided to postpone the announcement of new DG till November 9th after the U.S election
Reacting a day after, Okonjo-Iweala tweeted:
“Happy for the success and continued progress of our WTO DG bid. Very humble to be declared the candidate with the largest, broadest support among members and most likely to attract consensus. We move unto the next step on Nov 9, despite hiccups. We are keeping the positivity going!”
