Ex -Nigerian finance minster, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has recently been appointed as W.T.O Director general.
This has been thrown into doubt as the Office of the U.S Trade Representative released a statement clearly supporting the deputy trade minister of South Korea, Mrs. Yoo Myung-Hee.
This puts the appointment of Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in an uncomfortable state, as a consensus has to be reached by all 164 members of W.T.O.
The W.T.O states that the U.S is the only member of the organization that opposes her appointment.
According to the Office of the U.S Trade representative responsible for advising President Donald Trump on trade policy,
W.T.O must be led by someone who has real hands on experience in the field.
They also stated that
” Yoo Myung-Hee has distinguished herself as a trade expert and would be the best candidate to head the W.T.O”
